Tooth-colored Fillings

When you have a crack or fracture in your tooth or have large cavities or need root canal treatment because of decay, you will need a dental filling to "fill" the spaces left or repair the tooth's structure. A filling can be of different materials, in the past, your parents or grandparents had to have gold or silver fillings. However, with time dentists have realized that there are certain disadvantages with these type of metals as they don't bond well with your teeth, and they are also not very discreet. Nowadays, dentists are using composite resin for dental fillings because they are metal-free fillings that can resemble the color of your natural teeth and the material bonds better with your teeth. Our team at Old Town Orange Dental Group wants to give you the most radiant smile possible that is why we offer our patients metal-free tooth-colored fillings but also the opportunity to remove your old metal fillings and change them for the composite resin option.

If you have composite resin fillings, no one will know you have them, even when you smile and your teeth will be stronger because your teeth bond better with the material! If you have suffered a crack or fracture in your tooth, or after a root canal surgery, your tooth will need a dental filling to repair it and protect it.

How Are Tooth-colored Fillings Placed?

  1. The tooth is first cleaned and prepped for treatment
  2. An anesthetic gel and injection are applied to the area to block any pain
  3. The tooth has to be drilled or shaved to create a space for the dental filling
  4. Dr. Levitt will then apply the resin that matches the color of your natural teeth
  5. A special light will cure the composite resin so it hardens and it sets

After the procedure is completed, it is normal to feel a little discomfort but will last for only a couple of days, or you might not experience any pain at all. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene to avoid any more dental issues, and so your fillings have a long life.
